In August 2024, we hosted the 1st International Conference on Auditing and Artificial Intelligence, bringing together scholars and experts in AI, data analytics, accounting information systems, accounting, and auditing from around the world. The event served as a platform for sharing and exchanging ideas on advancing the auditing profession through the integration of AI.

The inaugural conference was a tremendous success, attracting more than 100 participants from nearly 10 countries. The program featured keynote speeches from both research and practice, insightful research presentations, and an engaging panel discussion. The breaks provided valuable opportunities for networking and interaction, creating a truly inspiring atmosphere.

Building on this success, the 2nd International Conference on Auditing and Artificial Intelligence was held in 2025 at the University of Duisburg-Essen. The conference once again brought together leading academics and practitioners from around the world to discuss the growing role of artificial intelligence in auditing. Presentations and discussions covered a wide range of topics, including human–AI collaboration, ethical implications, and emerging applications of AI in auditing. Several contributions also highlighted practical use cases from organizations such as Meta, Deutsche Telekom, Volkswagen, Uniper, and Deutsche Bahn, demonstrating how AI technologies are already being implemented in real-world audit environments.

With strong participation, excellent feedback from attendees, and the active involvement of both academia and practice, the conference series has quickly established itself as an important forum for dialogue on the future of auditing. As a result, the International Conference on Auditing and Artificial Intelligence will continue as an annual event.

The conference offers a prime opportunity to deepen our understanding of how AI is transforming auditing practices. It provides a unique platform to showcase innovative ideas and research that leverage AI's transformative capabilities in auditing. By bringing together researchers and practitioners from around the globe, the conference aims to foster research that directly impacts real-world practice.
